Subic Bay Children’s Home/Jail Ministry/Amagoh Halftime, Olongapo (Monday)
After Pastor Hurst prayed for us, we left Antipolo this morning around 5 am and headed to Subic Bay. Besides the morning traffic, one thing we definitely noticed were the maze of electricity wires on any given street and particularly the fellow lifting some of the wires so that his truck could pass underneath them (not sure that was OSHA approved!). We stopped at a Krispy Kreme. The donuts here are good but not as sweet. They had some interesting donuts—Cheetos cheese filled and Doritos cheese filled. Some other special donut flavors were Tiramisu, Matcha, and Biscoff. We gave the Krispy Kreme workers the QR code tract, and they were listening to the message. For some reason, we really felt safe as we ate our donuts as it is not uncommon for businesses to have their own personal security guard toting a shotgun.
We arrived with a warm welcome at Subic Bay Children’s Home. After a brief orientation about the ministry and children (many rescued from bad situations), the children sang and introduced themselves which was really special to the team. We could tell that the children really were glad that we had arrived. Since this was Cave’s third time to come on the YOM Philippines Team, one could tell that he was very happy to be back!
After unpacking and lunch we headed to the jail for a service. In cooperation with the Subic Bay Baptist Church’s Dorcas ministry, we gave hygiene kits to each of the “persons denied liberty.” We sang and introduced ourselves in Tagalog, had some games, and then Mr Fulfer gave a message about although you may be broken, you can still be used by God (unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures). Praise God as 7 muslim men trusted Christ as their personal Savior! We ended the evening with a basketball halftime show at the children’s home. We had a basketball shooting competition, and Alexandr Weaver gave a clear Gospel presentation. Yesterday, we had feeder bands from the first typhoon of the season. It really cooled the weather off. I’m expecting it will be a lot warmer for the rest of the trip. Praying we can make a difference.
Thank you for your prayers as the team is doing a great job!
