Thursday, May 29, Metro Independent Baptist Church (Quezon City)
Welcome to Alyssa who has today’s exciting update…Today we had an amazing opportunity to serve with members of Metro Independent Baptist Church at their VBS and medical clinic. Early in the morning, we went to the church and had a tasty breakfast that included fresh mangoes, avocados, and bananas. We then drove to the spot where we held the VBS—a covered basketball court. When we arrived check-in was in full swing, with hundreds of kids arranged by ages. The children were buzzing with excitement and so friendly! We mingled with the kids, talked to them, gave some high fives, and also got to know the parents. There were two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We sang some action songs filled with Bible truth like “I’m in the Lord’s Army,” “He’s Able,” and the theme song “You Gotta Believe.” The children loved following the motions and energetically participated. Brandon taught about the Bible story of the paralyzed man that God healed, and Callie taught about the ten lepers. Through the stories, the children learned about God’s love for them and about the gospel. Members from the church translated the story for the children. The children listened very well and we trust God worked in their hearts. Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Many of their parents were also present and were able to hear God’s truth as well. After learning their memory verses, the kids competed to see who could remember the verse and received prizes.
While the children were having the VBS, some of the nursing students held a small medical clinic where they took blood pressure for the parents and adults as well as handed out some medicine. They were able to help meet a physical need but also meet a spiritual need by sharing God’s love and the gospel with the adults there. The children at the afternoon session received some school supplies as they were leaving. The people working the VBS from the church were such a blessing. Their pure joy and willingness to reach out in their community despite the heat and put together the VBS was so inspiring.
In between sessions the team ate at Max’s Chicken and enjoyed some traditional Filipino food including lumpia, mango shakes, and sinigang. We enjoyed a relaxing evening by having dinner with the Tulabot family and shopping at the local mall.
Thank you to all those that are continually praying for our missions trip. The team was able to reach many kids with the gospel today. Please pray for the kids who trusted Christ today that they would grow in Him and get plugged into the local church; please also pray that the seeds of God’s Word planted in the hearts of many today would blossom and that many more would come to a saving knowledge of Christ.
